Spirobranchus spp. are a genus of tube-building polychaete worms commonly found in marine reef environments. This extra large specimen comes attached to live rock, making it an excellent addition to established reef aquariums.
These worms are filter feeders and require moderate water flow to facilitate feeding and waste removal. They thrive under moderate lighting conditions and should be placed in areas where they will not be overshadowed by larger corals or disturbed by aggressive neighbours.
When introducing Spirobranchus spp. to your aquarium, ensure adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent physical damage and allow their delicate feeding tentacles to extend freely. They are generally reef safe, but care should be taken to avoid placing them near corals that may overgrow or outcompete them.
Regular water quality maintenance and stable parameters are essential for their long-term health. Feeding is primarily through natural plankton and particulate matter in the water column, but supplemental feeding with finely powdered marine foods can be beneficial.
