Heliofungia actiniformis, commonly known as the Green Fungia Coral, is a solitary large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its dramatic, anemone-like tentacles and vibrant green coloration. This extra large specimen makes a striking centrepiece in mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain optimal health and vibrant colouration. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal. Strong currents can cause the tentacles to retract and stress the coral.
Placement: Place on sandy or fine rubble substrate to allow the coral to rest naturally. Ensure ample space around it to prevent stinging or damage to neighbouring corals, as Heliofungia actiniformis can extend its tentacles significantly.
Diet: While photosynthetic, this coral benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised coral foods 1-2 times per week.
Reef Compatibility: Yes, with adequate spacing. Its long tentacles can sting nearby corals, so maintain a respectful distance.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Requires stable water parameters and mature tank conditions.
Additional Notes: This coral is best suited for aquarists with experience in keeping LPS corals. Regular monitoring of water quality and gentle handling during maintenance will ensure longevity and health.
