The Tridacna Crocea, commonly known as the boring clam, is a captivating addition to any mature marine aquarium. This Grade A specimen, approximately 4cm in size, showcases vibrant colours and intricate mantle patterns that enhance reef aesthetics.
Care and Husbandry: Tridacna Crocea requires stable water parameters and moderate to strong lighting to support its symbiotic zooxanthellae algae. It thrives best in tanks with a minimum volume of 120 litres, providing ample space for growth and stability.
Placement should be on a stable rock or substrate where the clam can securely attach and partially embed itself. Moderate water flow is recommended to ensure nutrient exchange without causing stress.
Feeding is generally not necessary if lighting and water quality are optimal, as the clam derives most nutrition from photosynthesis. However, occasional supplementation with phytoplankton or specialised clam foods can promote health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: This species is considered reef safe and compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may nip at the mantle.
Regular monitoring of water parameters, particularly calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, is essential to support shell development and overall health.
