Nardoa spp. are a genus of featherstars known for their graceful, feathery arms used to capture plankton and suspended particles from the water column. These medium to large specimens add dynamic movement and natural beauty to mature reef tanks.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. Featherstars require stable water conditions and consistent feeding.
Feeding: Nardoa spp. are suspension feeders that rely on planktonic foods. Supplement their diet with finely chopped mysis, phytoplankton, or specialised invertebrate feeds several times per week. Target feeding is recommended to ensure adequate nutrition.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Generally reef safe, Nardoa spp. coexist well with peaceful tankmates. Avoid housing with aggressive fish or invertebrates that may harm their delicate arms.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 100 litres is advisable to provide sufficient water volume and stable parameters. Moderate to strong water flow is beneficial to facilitate feeding but avoid direct, strong currents that may damage the featherstar.
Placement: Position on rockwork or substrate where water flow is moderate and unobstructed. Ensure they have space to fully extend their arms for feeding.
Additional Notes: Featherstars are nocturnal and may retract arms during the day. Patience is required when acclimatising them to aquarium conditions.
