Macrodactyla doreensis (Purple) is a captivating medium-sized sea anemone prized for its vibrant purple tentacles and unique appearance. This species adds both colour and movement to mature marine aquariums, making it a sought-after invertebrate for experienced aquarists.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to its specific feeding and environmental needs.
Feeding: This anemone benefits from regular feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or specialised anemone pellets. Feeding 2-3 times weekly supports optimal health and growth.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Macrodactyla doreensis is generally reef safe with caution. It can coexist with many reef inhabitants but may sting nearby corals or invertebrates if placed too close. It is compatible with certain clownfish species, which may host within its tentacles.
Environmental Requirements: Moderate lighting is ideal, replicating natural reef conditions without excessive intensity. Water flow should be gentle to moderate, ensuring the anemone’s tentacles can move freely without being damaged.
Placement: Position this anemone on a stable rock or sandy substrate area where it can attach securely and expand fully. Avoid high flow zones and ensure it has space to extend tentacles without contacting other corals or invertebrates.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide adequate space and stable water parameters.
Origin: Not Provided.
Maximum Size: Typically reaches up to 15 cm in diameter when fully expanded.
With proper care, Macrodactyla doreensis (Purple) can be a stunning and rewarding addition to a mature marine aquarium, offering both aesthetic appeal and interesting behaviour.
