Amphiprion bicinctus, commonly called the Two-Band Clownfish, is a captivating marine fish native to the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. Recognisable by its vibrant orange body marked with two broad white bands, this species adds a splash of colour to any reef aquarium.
As a relatively peaceful clownfish, the Two-Band Clownfish is suitable for community reef tanks, provided tank mates are compatible. It thrives in well-maintained marine aquariums with stable water parameters and a minimum tank size of 75 litres (approximately 20 gallons) to allow for adequate swimming space and territory establishment.
Dietarily, Amphiprion bicinctus is omnivorous and accepts a variety of foods including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily supports optimal health and vibrant colouration.
Lighting and water flow requirements are moderate; this species does well under standard reef aquarium lighting and gentle to moderate water movement, mimicking its natural coral reef habitat. Placement near host anemones such as Entacmaea quadricolor (Bubble Tip Anemone) is beneficial, as these clownfish form symbiotic relationships with anemones, offering shelter and protection.
Amphiprion bicinctus is considered reef safe, posing no threat to corals or invertebrates. However, care should be taken when housing multiple clownfish to prevent territorial disputes.
Overall, the Two-Band Clownfish is an excellent choice for marine hobbyists seeking a hardy, visually appealing fish that integrates well into reef environments.
