Meiacanthus mossambicus, commonly called the Mozambique Fangblenny, is a fascinating addition to marine aquariums. Known for its distinctive venomous fangs used for defence, this species is peaceful and generally reef safe, making it suitable for community tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: This blenny is peaceful and non-aggressive, coexisting well with other peaceful fish species. It is best kept singly or in pairs in larger tanks to avoid territorial disputes.
Diet: Omnivorous by nature, Meiacanthus mossambicus thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, supplemented with marine flake or pellet foods.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territories. Stable water parameters with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4 are ideal.
Reef Compatibility: This species is considered reef safe with caution, as it may nip at very small or delicate invertebrates but generally coexists well with corals and other reef inhabitants.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate aquarists due to its specific dietary needs and sensitivity to water quality fluctuations.
