Pomacanthus chrysurus, commonly known as the Goldtail Angelfish, is a captivating addition to mature marine aquariums. This medium-sized adult specimen displays vivid colouration with a characteristic golden tail, making it a standout in any tank.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium.
Temperament: Semi-aggressive. Pomacanthus chrysurus can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics and similar-shaped fish. It is best housed singly or with robust tank mates.
Reef Safety: With Caution. While generally reef compatible, this angelfish may nip at corals and sessile invertebrates, so caution is advised in reef setups.
Diet: Omnivorous. Provide a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty foods to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: 250 litres (approximately 65 gallons). A spacious aquarium is essential to accommodate its active swimming and territorial behaviour.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. No special lighting needs beyond what is required for tank inhabitants.
Water Flow: Moderate. Ensure good water circulation to mimic natural reef environments without causing excessive stress.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Position the fish in a well-decorated tank with ample swimming space.
Origin: Western Indian Ocean, including the Red Sea and East African coast.
Maximum Size: Up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length.
