Apolemichthys trimaculatus, commonly known as the Three-Spot Angelfish, is a visually captivating species prized by marine aquarium enthusiasts. This tiny specimen is perfect for hobbyists with experience in maintaining larger, mature reef systems.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended due to its specific dietary needs and territorial behaviour.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, the Three-Spot Angelfish can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics or similar species. It is best housed singly or with other robust tank mates. Avoid keeping with very small or timid fish.
Diet: Omnivorous, requiring a varied diet including marine algae, spirulina, mysis shrimp, and specialised angelfish preparations to ensure optimal health and vibrant coloration.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres (approximately 40 US gallons) is advised to provide sufficient swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be well-established with live rock for grazing and hiding spots.
Water Parameters: Stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025, and good water quality are essential.
Reef Compatibility: With caution. While generally reef safe, this species may nip at soft corals or clam mantles, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 25 cm (10 inches) in captivity.
