Overview: The Siganus spinus, or Foxface Rabbitfish, is a visually striking marine fish popular among hobbyists for its vibrant colours and algae-grazing behaviour. This medium-sized specimen is suitable for community tanks with peaceful tank mates.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and shy, the Foxface Rabbitfish can coexist well with other non-aggressive species. It may display territorial behaviour towards conspecifics or similar species, so housing only one per tank is recommended unless the aquarium is very large.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, Siganus spinus thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality herbivore flakes, pellets, and occasional meaty foods to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce stress. Maintain stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution. While generally safe with corals, the Foxface Rabbitfish may nip at some soft corals or macroalgae, so monitor behaviour closely.
Care Level: Moderate. Suitable for aquarists with some experience in marine fish care.
Additional Notes: The Foxface Rabbitfish has venomous spines that can cause painful stings if handled improperly. Exercise caution during maintenance.
