Ctenochaetus binotatus, commonly called the Chevron Tang, is a striking tang species prized for its unique chevron markings and effective algae grazing. This large variant is suitable for experienced hobbyists with established marine tanks.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful, the Chevron Tang coexists well with other non-aggressive fish. It can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar tang species, so adequate space and hiding spots are recommended.
Diet: Primarily herbivorous, this tang thrives on a diet rich in marine algae and seaweed. Supplement with high-quality dried seaweed sheets, spirulina, and specialised herbivore pellets to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial behaviour. Maintain stable water parameters with regular water changes and good filtration.
Reef Compatibility: Reef safe with caution, as it may nip at some sessile invertebrates or soft corals. Monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Care Level: Moderate. Requires stable water conditions and a well-established aquarium with plenty of natural algae growth or supplemental feeding.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 20 cm (approximately 8 inches).
