The Sebae Snapper (Lutjanus sebae) is a visually stunning marine fish prized for its vibrant red and white coloration and bold presence. This listing features a small, tank-bred specimen, offering a more sustainable and acclimatised option for marine aquarium enthusiasts.
Care Level: Intermediate to Advanced. Sebae Snappers require stable water conditions and a large aquarium due to their active swimming behaviour and eventual size.
Temperament and Compatibility: This species is a predatory snapper and can be territorial, especially as it matures. It is best kept with similarly sized or larger robust fish. Avoid housing with small, peaceful species that may be seen as prey.
Diet: Carnivorous. Provide a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live meaty foods such as shrimp, fish fillets, and specialised carnivore pellets to ensure optimal health.
Minimum Tank Size: A minimum of 300 litres (approximately 80 US gallons) is recommended to accommodate the active swimming needs and adult size of this species.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. Moderate water flow mimicking natural reef currents is ideal to keep the fish comfortable and healthy.
Placement: Provide ample swimming space with some rockwork or caves for shelter. Ensure the tank is securely covered as Sebae Snappers are known to be strong and agile swimmers.
Origin: Tank-bred in controlled aquaculture facilities, ensuring better adaptation to captive conditions and reduced wild collection impact.
Maximum Size: Up to 50 cm (20 inches) in captivity, though growth rates vary.
