Euphyllia glabrescens, commonly known as the Black Torch Coral, is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its elegant, waving tentacles tipped in black or dark brown. This species adds dynamic movement and texture to mature reef tanks, making it a popular choice among experienced marine aquarists.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is ideal, such as T5 fluorescents or LED systems providing medium PAR levels. Avoid intense direct light to prevent bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is preferred to gently sway the tentacles without causing damage.
Placement: Position the Black Torch Coral where it has ample space to extend its long tentacles without touching neighbouring corals, as it can exhibit aggressive sweeper tentacles. A minimum of 10cm clearance is recommended.
Care Level: Moderate care is required. Stable water parameters and regular feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods will promote healthy growth.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near other Euphyllia species or corals sensitive to sweeper tentacles.
Additional Notes: This coral benefits from occasional target feeding and stable calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels to maintain skeletal growth.
