Pseudodax moluccanus is a beautifully coloured wrasse native to the Indo-Pacific region, prized for its vibrant blue and green hues and dynamic swimming behaviour. This species is an excellent addition to a mature marine aquarium, offering both visual appeal and active movement.
Care Level: Moderate. This wrasse requires stable water parameters and a well-established tank with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards similar-sized wrasses or conspecifics. Best kept singly or in a well-planned community setup.
Diet: Carnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with marine pellets or flakes formulated for carnivorous fish.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Reef Compatibility: With Caution. While generally reef safe, Pseudodax moluccanus may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals, so monitor behaviour closely in reef setups.
Lighting and Water Flow: Standard moderate lighting and moderate water flow are suitable, replicating natural reef conditions.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock for shelter and foraging. This species appreciates a tank with caves and crevices to retreat to when stressed.
Origin: Indo-Pacific region.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches).
