Euphyllia glabrescens (Hellfire) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its long, flowing tentacles that resemble flickering flames. This coral adds dynamic movement and vivid colour to mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to support photosynthesis while preventing bleaching. LED or T5 lighting systems with adjustable intensity work well.
Water Flow: Provide gentle to moderate, indirect water flow to keep the tentacles swaying without causing damage. Avoid strong currents that can stress the coral.
Placement: Position this coral in the middle to lower regions of the tank, ensuring ample space around it to prevent contact with neighbouring corals. Euphyllia glabrescens has sweeper tentacles that can sting adjacent corals, so maintain at least 10cm clearance.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate to advanced hobbyists due to its specific lighting and flow needs.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of meaty foods such as brine shrimp or specialised coral foods to promote growth and vibrancy.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; ensure adequate spacing from other corals to avoid aggression.
Regular water quality maintenance with stable parameters is essential for long-term health. Monitor calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels closely to support skeletal growth.
