Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura, commonly known as the Blue-sided Fairy Wrasse, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. Known for its vivid colours and graceful swimming, this species is a favourite among experienced hobbyists seeking to enhance their reef environment.
Temperament and Compatibility: This wrasse is peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive tank mates. It is best housed in a community reef tank with similarly sized, peaceful fish. Avoid keeping with large predatory species that may bully or prey upon it.
Diet: Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura thrives on a varied diet consisting of high-quality frozen and live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Supplement with specialised marine pellets or flakes to ensure balanced nutrition.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space. The aquarium should be well-established with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging.
Water Parameters and Environment: Maintain stable marine conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and pH between 8.1 and 8.4. Moderate water flow and good filtration are essential to replicate their natural reef habitat.
Reef Compatibility: This species is considered reef safe with caution, as it may occasionally nip at small invertebrates. Monitor behaviour closely when introducing to reef tanks containing delicate corals or invertebrates.
Additional Notes: Cirrhilabrus cyanopleura is a jumping species; ensure the aquarium is securely covered to prevent escape. Regular water changes and stable water quality will support long-term health and vibrant coloration.
