Anampses lineatus, commonly known as the lined wrasse, is a beautifully patterned marine fish prized for its vibrant colours and peaceful temperament. This large variant can reach up to 25 cm in length, making it a striking centrepiece for experienced marine aquarists.
In the aquarium, Anampses lineatus requires a well-established tank of at least 180 litres, with plenty of live rock for hiding and foraging. This species is generally peaceful but may show territorial behaviour towards other wrasses, so compatibility should be considered carefully.
Diet should be varied and include meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood, supplemented with high-quality marine pellets or flakes. Regular feeding 1-2 times daily is recommended to maintain optimal health.
Water parameters should be stable, with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and good water quality maintained through efficient filtration and moderate water flow. Lighting requirements are standard for marine fish and should support the overall reef environment.
Due to its size and activity level, Anampses lineatus is best kept in a species-specific or mixed reef tank with peaceful tank mates. It is considered reef safe with caution, as it may nip at small invertebrates or sessile animals.
