Pseudanthias ventralis (male) is a visually stunning anthias species prized for its vivid colours and dynamic swimming patterns. This species is best suited to experienced hobbyists who can provide a spacious, mature marine aquarium.
Temperament and Compatibility: Males can be territorial, especially towards conspecifics or similar anthias species. They generally coexist peacefully with other semi-aggressive fish but should not be housed with overly aggressive tankmates. Ideal companions include peaceful reef-safe species.
Diet: Pseudanthias ventralis are carnivorous and thrive on a varied diet of high-quality frozen or live foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding multiple times a day is recommended to mimic their natural feeding habits.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 150 litres (approximately 40 gallons) is advised to provide ample swimming space and reduce territorial disputes. A well-established aquarium with stable water parameters and moderate to strong water flow will help replicate their natural reef environment.
Reef Compatibility: This species is generally reef safe but should be monitored as some individuals may nip at small invertebrates or corals. Suitable for reef tanks with adequate hiding spaces and live rock.
Additional Care: Ensure excellent water quality with regular maintenance and stable parameters. Provide plenty of hiding spots and open swimming areas. Avoid sudden changes in water chemistry or temperature.
