The Gramma Loreto (Gramma loreto) is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vivid purple and yellow colouring and peaceful temperament. This large variant is well-suited to established reef tanks where it can display its natural behaviour and vibrant colours.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally peaceful and shy, the Gramma Loreto coexists well with other non-aggressive fish species. It may become territorial towards conspecifics or similar-shaped basslets, so it is best kept singly or as a mated pair in larger tanks.
Diet: Carnivorous by nature, this species thrives on a varied diet including high-quality frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Regular feeding of meaty foods will ensure optimal health and colour vibrancy.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 75 litres (20 gallons) is recommended to provide ample swimming space and territory. The aquarium should be mature with plenty of live rock for hiding places and natural grazing.
Water Parameters and Environment: Stable marine conditions with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.023-1.025 SG, and moderate water flow are ideal. Lighting should be moderate to replicate natural reef environments.
Reef Compatibility: The Gramma Loreto is considered reef safe with caution, as it generally does not harm corals but may prey on very small invertebrates.
