Calloplesiops altivelis, often referred to as the Comet or Marine Basslet, is a captivating small marine fish prized for its striking black and white spotted pattern and unique behaviour. This species is nocturnal and shy, making it a fascinating addition to a mature reef aquarium.

Temperament: Generally peaceful but may be territorial towards similar species or smaller fish.
Diet: Carnivorous – feeds on meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood. Feeding should be done in the evening to match its nocturnal activity.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide adequate space and hiding places.
Reef Compatibility: Yes, with caution – peaceful towards corals but may prey on small invertebrates.
Lighting and Placement: Prefers dimly lit areas with plenty of rockwork and caves to shelter during daylight hours. Moderate water flow is ideal.
