Pseudochromis fridmani, commonly known as the Crossback Dottyback, is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts due to its vivid colours and manageable temperament. This tank-bred specimen ensures healthier, more adaptable fish with reduced risk of introducing wild parasites.
Appearance: The Crossback Dottyback displays a striking contrast of electric blue on the front half of its body and bright yellow on the rear, making it a standout addition to any reef tank.
Temperament and Compatibility: Generally semi-aggressive, this species can hold its own against similarly sized tank mates but may show territorial behaviour. It is best kept with other peaceful to moderately aggressive fish and should not be housed with very small or timid species. Suitable for reef aquariums, but caution is advised as it may nip at small invertebrates.
Diet: Omnivorous and easy to feed, the Crossback Dottyback accepts a variety of frozen, live, and prepared foods including brine shrimp, mysis shrimp, and high-quality marine pellets.
Care and Husbandry: Maintain stable water parameters with temperatures between 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and pH of 8.1-8.4. Provide plenty of live rock for hiding and territory establishment. A minimum tank size of 75 litres is recommended to accommodate its active swimming and territorial needs.
Origin: Tank-bred in captivity, ensuring sustainable sourcing and better acclimation to aquarium life.
