The Chaetodon triangulum, commonly known as the Triangle Butterflyfish, is a captivating addition to any marine aquarium. This medium-sized species displays a unique triangular pattern on its body, making it a standout specimen for experienced hobbyists.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water conditions and a mature tank environment.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial towards conspecifics or similar species.
Diet: Omnivorous. In captivity, provide a varied diet including high-quality frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and specialised prepared foods formulated for butterflyfish. Supplement with marine algae and sponges to mimic natural feeding habits.
Minimum Tank Size: 150 litres (40 US gallons) to provide adequate swimming space and territory.
Compatibility: Best kept singly or as a mated pair in a community tank with other peaceful species. Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping fish.
Reef Safety: With Caution. May nip at coral polyps and sessile invertebrates; suitable for reef tanks with hardy corals or well-established SPS/LPS species.
Tank Setup: Provide plenty of live rock for grazing and hiding spots. Maintain excellent water quality with stable parameters: temperature 24-27°C, salinity 1.023-1.025, pH 8.1-8.4.
