Saron marmoratus, commonly known as the Marbled Cleaner Crab, is a visually captivating invertebrate prized for its intricate marbled pattern and active behaviour. Sold as a pair, these crabs add both interest and utility to marine reef aquariums.
Feeding: Saron marmoratus are omnivorous scavengers that benefit from a varied diet including meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and algae-based pellets. Supplementing their diet with detritus and biofilm found in the aquarium helps mimic natural feeding habits.
Compatibility: These crabs are generally peaceful but can become territorial towards conspecifics or similar species. They are best housed as a mated pair or singly in reef-safe setups. Exercise caution when keeping with small, slow-moving invertebrates or delicate corals, as they may occasionally nip.
Reef Safety: With caution – while largely reef safe, they may occasionally disturb sessile invertebrates or small fish. Monitor behaviour closely and provide ample hiding places.
Tank Requirements: A minimum tank size of 100 litres is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water parameters. Moderate water flow and stable marine conditions are essential for their health.
Care Level: Moderate – suitable for aquarists with some experience in marine invertebrate husbandry.
Placement: Provide plenty of live rock with crevices and caves for shelter. They are nocturnal and appreciate shaded areas during the day.
Origin: Not Provided
Maximum Size: Up to 8 cm (carapace width)
