Heteractis aurora is a captivating species of sea anemone prized for its vibrant colours and large, flowing tentacles. This anemone is a striking addition to mature marine aquariums and is best suited to experienced hobbyists due to its specific care requirements.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced care is recommended. This species requires stable water parameters and consistent maintenance.
Feeding: While Heteractis aurora benefits from photosynthesis via its symbiotic zooxanthellae, it also requires supplemental feeding. Offer meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, finely chopped seafood, or specialised anemone pellets 1-2 times per week to promote growth and vitality.
Compatibility & Reef Safety: This anemone is generally reef safe but should be kept with caution. It can host certain anemonefish species, but care should be taken when housing with other invertebrates or corals due to its stinging tentacles.
Lighting & Water Flow: Moderate to high lighting is ideal to support its photosynthetic needs. Water flow should be moderate to ensure adequate oxygenation without causing excessive stress or damage to the tentacles.
Placement: Place Heteractis aurora on a stable rock or substrate where it can attach securely. Avoid areas with strong direct currents or aggressive neighbours.
Tank Size: A minimum tank size of 100 litres (approximately 25 gallons) is recommended to provide sufficient space and stable water conditions.
Origin & Size: Origin varies; maximum size can reach up to 30 cm in diameter. Available in various sizes to suit different aquarium setups.
