Available in various sizes, this species is suitable for hobbyists looking to add a calm and visually appealing fish to their reef or marine setups.
Care and Husbandry
This goby requires a minimum tank size of 75 litres to provide ample space for swimming and burrowing behaviour. A sandy substrate is recommended to allow natural digging and shelter creation. The species prefers stable water conditions with a temperature range of 24-27°C, salinity of 1.020-1.025 SG, and a pH between 8.1 and 8.4.
Temperament and Compatibility
Amblyeleotris diagonalis is peaceful and generally compatible with other non-aggressive fish species. It can be kept in reef tanks but with caution, as it may occasionally disturb small invertebrates while burrowing. Avoid housing with overly aggressive or large predatory fish.
Diet
This goby thrives on a varied diet consisting mainly of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen preparations. Feeding should be done once or twice daily to maintain optimal health.
Placement
Position this goby in a well-established aquarium with plenty of live rock and sandy substrate. It appreciates hiding spots and will often form burrows in the sand. Moderate water flow is ideal to mimic its natural environment.
