Alveopora spp. (Ultra) are a captivating genus of Large Polyp Stony (LPS) corals belonging to the family Poritidae. Known for their delicate, flower-like polyps and soft, feathery appearance, these corals add a unique texture and movement to mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Alveopora spp. thrive under moderate lighting conditions. Intense lighting may cause stress, so it is best to provide indirect or diffused light, ideally using LED or T5 fixtures with adjustable intensity.
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate water flow is recommended to ensure optimal polyp extension and to prevent detritus accumulation without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position this coral in a shaded or semi-shaded area of the reef tank, preferably mid-level or lower, where it can receive filtered light and gentle currents. Avoid placing it too close to aggressive corals to prevent stinging or overgrowth.
Care Level: Due to its sensitivity, Alveopora spp. require stable water parameters and consistent maintenance. They are best suited for intermediate to advanced aquarists.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing from neighbouring corals to avoid competition and aggression.
Feeding: While Alveopora spp. derive much of their nutrition from photosynthesis via symbiotic zooxanthellae, they benefit from supplemental feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton, rotifers, or specialised coral foods.
Origin & Size: Origin and maximum size vary within the genus; therefore, conservative husbandry practices are advised. This listing is for an Extra Large specimen, suitable for display in spacious reef tanks.
