Pectinia spp. (Orange Center) is a visually striking large polyp stony (LPS) coral prized for its vibrant orange centres and intricate plate-like growth form. This small specimen is suitable for marine reef tanks where it can add a splash of vivid colour and texture.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to support healthy growth and vibrant coloration. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to prevent tissue damage while ensuring adequate nutrient exchange.
Placement: Position this coral on stable rockwork in the mid to lower regions of the aquarium. Ensure sufficient spacing from neighbouring corals to avoid aggressive interactions, as Pectinia spp. can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Intermediate. This coral requires stable water parameters and consistent maintenance to thrive.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from occasional feeding of small meaty foods such as phytoplankton, rotifers, or specialised coral foods.
Compatibility: Reef safe with adequate spacing. Avoid placing near aggressive or fast-growing corals that may overshadow or damage it.
Regular monitoring of water quality, including calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium, is essential for optimal skeletal growth. Maintain temperature between 24-27°C and stable salinity around 1.025 SG.
