Caulastrea curvata (Green) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral from the family Faviidae, prized for its vibrant green polyps and unique curved skeletal structure. This coral adds striking colour and texture to mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate lighting is recommended to maintain optimal health and vibrant colouration. LED or T5 lighting systems with a PAR range of 50-150 are suitable.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal to prevent tissue damage while ensuring adequate nutrient delivery and waste removal.
Placement: Position this coral on stable rockwork in the middle to lower regions of the tank, allowing space around it to prevent aggression towards neighbouring corals. Adequate spacing is essential as Caulastrea curvata can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Moderate care requirements make this coral suitable for aquarists with some experience in maintaining LPS corals.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae, but benefits from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, or specialised coral foods 1-2 times per week.
Compatibility and Reef Safety: Reef safe with adequate spacing from other corals to avoid aggression. Compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Additional Notes: Maintain stable water parameters with calcium, alkalinity, and magnesium levels within recommended ranges for stony corals. Regular water changes and monitoring ensure optimal growth and colour.
