Sinularia spp. are a genus of soft leather corals popular in marine reef aquariums due to their attractive appearance and relatively hardy nature. This medium-sized specimen offers a natural, flowing aesthetic with finger-like lobes that sway gently in the aquarium current.
Lighting: Sinularia spp. thrive under moderate lighting conditions. LED or T5 lighting systems providing a PAR range of approximately 50-150 are suitable. Avoid intense direct light which may cause bleaching.
Water Flow: Moderate, indirect water flow is ideal. This encourages polyp extension and helps prevent detritus accumulation without causing tissue damage.
Placement: Position this coral in the middle to lower regions of the tank where it can receive adequate light and flow. Ensure sufficient spacing from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Sinularia spp. can release chemical defences.
Care Level: Suitable for intermediate hobbyists. Maintain stable water parameters with regular testing and water changes to support coral health.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; provide adequate spacing from other corals to avoid allelopathic effects. Compatible with most peaceful reef inhabitants.
Diet: Primarily photosynthetic via symbiotic zooxanthellae but will benefit from occasional feeding of fine particulate foods such as phytoplankton or coral-specific liquid supplements.
Additional Notes: Sinularia spp. can grow relatively quickly under optimal conditions. Regular trimming may be necessary to manage growth and maintain tank aesthetics.
