Amphiprion chrysopterus, commonly referred to as the Large Clownfish, is a captivating species prized for its vibrant colours and robust nature. Native to the western Pacific, this clownfish is a popular choice among marine aquarium enthusiasts seeking a visually striking and relatively hardy fish.
Care Level: Moderate to advanced. This species requires stable water parameters and a well-maintained environment.
Temperament: Generally peaceful but can be territorial, especially when paired or kept with other clownfish species. Best housed with compatible, non-aggressive tank mates.
Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a varied diet including high-quality marine pellets, frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and finely chopped seafood to ensure optimal health and colouration.
Minimum Tank Size: 120 litres (approximately 30 gallons) to provide ample swimming space and territory.
Lighting Requirements: Standard marine aquarium lighting is sufficient. If kept with anemones or corals, adjust lighting accordingly to meet their needs.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal, mimicking natural reef conditions without causing stress.
Placement: Amphiprion chrysopterus often forms symbiotic relationships with host anemones such as Heteractis magnifica or Stichodactyla gigantea. Provide suitable hosts or ample rockwork for shelter.
Origin: Western Pacific Ocean.
Maximum Size: Up to 15 cm (6 inches) in length.
With proper care, the Large Clownfish can be a long-lived and rewarding addition to a marine aquarium. Regular water changes, stable salinity, and attentive feeding will help maintain its health and vibrant colours.
