Galaxea spp. (Green) is a captivating large polyp stony (LPS) coral known for its vibrant green hues and distinctive polyp structure. This medium-sized specimen adds dynamic movement and texture to mature reef aquariums.
Lighting: Moderate to high lighting is recommended to maintain optimal colouration and health. LED or T5 lighting systems that provide a balanced spectrum work well.
Water Flow: Moderate water flow is ideal to ensure proper gas exchange and to prevent detritus settling on the coral’s surface, while avoiding strong currents that may cause polyp retraction.
Placement: Position this coral in a stable location with adequate space to accommodate its expanding polyps. Maintain sufficient distance from neighbouring corals to prevent aggressive interactions, as Galaxea spp. can extend sweeper tentacles.
Care Level: Due to its moderate care requirements and potential for aggression, this coral is best suited for aquarists with some experience in LPS coral husbandry.
Compatibility: Reef safe with caution; ensure adequate spacing from other corals to avoid stinging and tissue damage.
Feeding: While photosynthetic, Galaxea spp. benefit from supplemental feeding of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp or specialised coral foods to support growth and vibrancy.
Water Parameters: Maintain stable marine conditions with temperature between 24-27°C, salinity at 1.023-1.025 SG, and low nutrient levels to prevent algae overgrowth.
